Perfect Privacy operates from out of Switzerland. It is one of the most privacy-concerned VPNs we have ever tested with top-notch encryption features. They currently have 58 servers running in 26 countries. Perfect Privacy mainly caters to people who want the solid privacy features, but care less for unblocking geo-restricted content (No US Netflix, I am afraid).
Perfect Privacy takes really good care of the basics: they don’t log any data and run on ramdisks to ensure that no trace of data is left when the server is disconnected. They offer a wide array of protocols: OpenVPN. IPsec, SSH3 tunnel, etc. Also, almost every platform imaginable is supported.
It does sound great until you are planning to use it for geo-restricted content: we have only been able to get Netflix working on Netherland servers with varying success. Torrenting seems to work great on any location though. Other notable features Perfect Privacy offers:
- 256-bit encryption
- No logging/log-files
- Cascading of multiple VPN servers
- Configurable port forwardings
- No traffic limit
- Up to 1000Mbps bandwidth
- Easily usable client software
- Support via email, forum, and TeamViewer
- Quickly switch between OpenVPN and IPsec/IKEv2
- IPv6 Support
- Stealth VPN Technology
- 7 Days Money Back Guarantee
AI-based routing, which dynamically switches to the VPN servers based on routing changes on the Internet corresponding to the location of the sites you are visiting.
TrackStop does a decent job at protecting you from malware injections, cookie-tracking, and masking your browser’s fingerprint.
TrackStop’s other useful feature is its active parental controls. It tries to filter out inappropriate content, gambling, and violence. In addition to that, you can filter out fake news websites.
Privacy – jurisdiction, data collection, (does it belong to any x Eyes alliance)
Perfect Privacy is among the top privacy-centered VPNs out there. Their main focus has been no logs approach for which they have gained trust in the industry.
The company is based in Switzerland which is an excellent jurisdiction for privacy. The technical wing of the company is based in Panama which is also a good choice for privacy. Neither country is part of any surveillance alliances.
Perfect Privacy offers a set of leak protection features that can be configured on a client level. The securest level will block all non-VPN traffic.
There are a number of powerful obfuscation features available called Stealth VPN. It masks data packets to look like normal HTTPS traffic while defeating deep packet inspection. This is useful if you intend to use it in countries with a restricted network.
Warrant Canary of Perfect Privacy:
Perfect Privacy offers extensive support for platforms. Although starting off as a Windows client, there are now MacOS, iOS, Linux and Android clients available.
On a Windows client, you get the ping feature that lets you choose the fastest server available. It also comes with the kill switch, leak protection tools, and the firewall.
The Interface is very old school and looks 20 years old. It also has some usability issues that could be improved like switching from one server to another. With other VPNs it’s just a matter of picking a new server but with Perfect Privacy, you need to manually disconnect from the old server before you can connect to a new one. There is also not Quick connect options and the countries that have multiple locations (USA) the servers are scattered in the list making it harder to find the right one for you.
We are glad to see that the support for MacOS has finally come out of beta. Until recently the users of Apple’s devices had to resort to third-party software. It now provides the same features found in a Windows client – a kill switch, with all three levels of leak protection, obfuscation, and multi-hop VPN.
Perfect Privacy Android client is based on a strongSwan VPN client. It is full-featured and is very simple to use.
Although there is no IOS app to install there is still a possibility to use a third-party OpenVPN Connect app to connect to the servers. This requires you to import OpenVPN profile and enabling a seamless tunnel. We recommending using this setup for advanced users. If you are a beginner VPN user there are better solutions available for iOS
Support is being offered via 4 channels. The most active being forum which can be accessed via Perfect Privacy website. We have found that e-mail and ticket form works best. In all cases, we have received an answer within 24 hours.
There is also a possibility to have a Perfect Privacy’s technician to chat and troubleshoot your system via a remote connection with TeamViewer.
The speed test did not impress us much. Both Norway and Sweden that should show very good speeds (as good as 95% of an original benchmark) we noticed 22% and 26% drop in download speeds respectively. Denmark clocked in at 29% drop.
In USA we tested the Chicago server and noticed a steady download speed around 40Mbps, which was a 58% drop.
China, as expected, showed very poor results and was practically unusable at the time of our tests.
What amazed us was the torrent test – the speeds, when connected to the Swedish server, surpassed the speeds without any VPN connected.
Perfect Privacy offers a wide array of payment methods. In addition to all the traditional electronic payments, they also accept Bitcoin, payment via phone and cash.
The price is definitely on a high-side. The 1-year plan costs $9.99 (or €9.99 for EU). There is no trial period, although they offer a 7-day money-back guarantee on all subscriptions.
Pros and Cons
Perfect Privacy is at the forefront of the VPN industry. We recommend this VPN for its privacy and encryption features. If you are choosing VPN purely for watching geo-restricted content then there are better products on the market.
